MISSION
To advance the quality and scope of lifelong learning in Pueblo County.
VISION
A knowledgeable and skilled community and workforce providing opportunities for technical, financial, and aesthetic advancement.
RATIONALE
Learning is unique in its overall importance and impact on virtually every aspect of the future of Pueblo and its communities. With life-long learning becoming essential for the economic well being of individuals and communities, education is an integral element for both stability and growth.
ATTRIBUTES
Pueblo County can point with pride to many aspects of its educational systems. In collaborative efforts, Pueblo is a national leader. Our public school system, community college and university are all versatile, accessible and centered on meeting local needs.
Goal 1To advocate effective partnerships among the business community, workforce, government, educators, parents, and students.
Objective 1Foster interaction between Pueblo educational entities and businesses.
Strategies
a. Maintain support for Mathematics Association of Pueblo
b. Promote a current Community Resource Directory
c. Advocate opportunities where Pueblo Community College (PCC) and Colorado State University-Pueblo (CSU-Pueblo) can meet business community needs for specialized coursework and/or training.
Objective 2Promote community recognition of student and faculty achievement.
Strategies
a. Monitor business and community efforts to recognize student and faculty achievement.
b. Engage civic organizations to recognize positive student and faculty achievement.
Goal 2To increase Pueblo community adult literacy and mathematics skills.
Objective 1Support scientifically proven adult literacy programs and activities.
Strategies
a. Identify and support organizations and programs addressing adult literacy and mathematics needs
b. Advocate coordination and communication of information regarding adult literacy and mathematics programs.
Goal 3To support Pre-K through 16 high levels of student proficiency.
ObjectiveSupport educational initiatives and implementation of research-based, proven educational student academic programs
Strategies
a. Monitor and support specialized scientifically proven programs geared at improving student literacy and mathematics programs.
b. Endorse high levels of student proficiency at key benchmarks
c. Advocate and endorse student promotion policies based on student academic readiness.
d. Promote and endorse legislation, where appropriate, to support maximum levels of funding for education.
